In the space creation under the traditional environmental thinking, we follow the words of Lao Tzu “Goodness just like water”, the connotation of which is that human behavior should be like water, not pretend to be self-conscious, which shall be line with the nature of things. Therefore, “Inaction” purposed by Lao Tzu refers to follow the trend, rather than non-action, without expending the extra effort, which relies on the external forms to create oneself.

This design is a renovation of the original building, we respect the existing situation, without the excessive artificial finishing and unified treatment of style. The design emphasizes the connection of slow traffic space and the shaping of important public space nodes. Therefore, the new part and the old urban fabric are quietly integrated. It is prevented from losing its original temperament in the unstoppable reshaping of the rational pattern and scale of modernization.

In the space, many original walls are retained, for which the vibrant natural texture can “grow” again under contact with stone and wood; for the bulky load-bearing columns in the atrium, the original white porcelain veneers are removed to reveal the original appearance. Afterwards, the gaps with the different sizes are left by combining stone veneers to make the columns lighter; it is the same as the stairs connecting to the second floor, where the iron handrails are only added to the original pattern. It reveals a static vitality to the space. The floor is made by self-leveling cement to harmonize with our split texture.

The site was originally two non-parallel spaces. However, this space is now integrated parallel on the axis of the road, so that the entrance is presented the internal space in the positive direction, which enhances the comfort of customers. Similarly, the ceiling is arranged in flaky lines, which is visually oriented and eliminates the spatial irregularities. In order to unify the entrance space, the second-floor railing and the first-floor supporting steel frame are unified with the material, and the metal grille is finely divided in scale, so that the visual and physical characteristics of the material can be reduced, which can be integrated when its unity of texture emerges.

In the front of the space, two rows of 6-meter linear cabinets are used to organize the site and create the visual impact. The internal structure listed on the side of the cabinet and the wall shelf row is also an echo of the restored essence of the place. The backfield space is distributed in blocks, which is convenient for moving and purchasing.

As a modern space, the sustainable materials are used for its interior details: stools printed from 3D waste at the product introduction table, the sponges made of renewable materials are interspersed with glass showcases. On the account, the trend of low-carbon environmental protection can be hereby guided.

Su Shi mentioned in “Narrative of Painting Water”: “Rushing waves are painted, twisting and turning with mountains and rocks, embodying the shape of things, and changing the shape of waters, known as Shenyi.” Although it is talking about painting, it refers to all types of modeling activities. “Embody the shape of things” means observing things, seizing the timing, and mastering the proportions, so that things are natural and flexible. As we think about construction, the natural features of “humanity” are shown by following the trend.
