As a young fit-friendly foods catering brand, the new store of SHIYE SHALA lies in the park of an electronic industry incubator. Compared with most start-up brands, in the early stage of operation, SHIYE SHALA has accumulated loyal customers by virtue of its good food quality. However, with the increasing number of consumers and food categories, the original operating area has been unable to meet the needs of further brand promotion. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the catering industry has always been in a state of unstable operation. After comprehensive consideration, the owner still hopes to upgrade a new place with a larger business area, develop some functions for events and gatherings. While enhancing the dining experience of diners, minimize the cost of store decoration as much as possible.
received the design assignment, WDS first made a visit to the original storefront of SHIYE SHALA. Due to business needs, the original old store is still operating normally during the renovation of the new store. Due to budget considerations, some old kitchen utensils should be reserved for use, so during this visit, the design team made detailed statistics and measurements of all the utensils that the owner expects to keep.
After on-the-spot investigation of the new site of SHIYE SHALA, the design team found that, in fact, this is not a store. Due to the adjustment of the business format on the 1F of the industrial park, the original hall has been divided into storefronts by several merchants to carry out business activities. However, the connection between the storefront and the lobby still exists. In the original industrial park planning, this place was designed and constructed as an exhibition hall, so the ceiling and wall shape here are quite different from the other two, which means, there is no reference. After considerations, the design team decided to retain and renovate the original ceiling and wall shapes for the safety of demolition of the old original interior and cost control.
After several discussions with the owner about the brand content and development direction, we started from the “natural, original, fresh and healthy” of the slogan for the salad brand. In terms of the proportion of high-fiber meals such as vegetables and fruits in nutritional intake, the accumulation process bit by bit of “dietary fiber “and other healthy nutrition has been decided as the as a spatial concept to carry out the overall store design.
Since the original fuction of this space is not for catering, out of functional requirements, the design team considered to set up three entrances and exits at the same time in the newly divided storefront, namely the outdoor main entrance leading to the two outdoor platforms and the indoor secondary entrance connecting to the 1F hall of the industrial park.
In terms of indoor entrance and partition walls, the newly built structural column + hollow brick shaped wall can effectively reduce the decoration cost. While ensuring the privacy inside and outside, the shape adjustment is carried out through the different masonry directions of the hollow bricks. The single shape of the hollow brick can not only maintain a certain unity with the old ceiling shape, but also meet the design requirements of thermal insulation, rich design details and anti-rat and insect-proof through closed acrylic board, hollow color registration, and closed cement board at the bottom.
In color selection, the design team chose fresh green and white to match, and directly laid a layer of gray floor on the original beige tiled floor here and set up many real plants in the corner of the space. It can improve the indoor air quality to a certain extent and make the inside atmosphere become natural and fresh.
The partition wall and bar in the venue are realized by different masonry methods of hollow brick, a prefabricated building material, single-layer, multi-layer, and different masonry directions not only separate the large site space according to the characteristics of use, which can make the “dietary fiber” element composed of “bit by bit” inner arc corners and squares continue to run through the entire space.
The glass partitions of the tearoom and the VIP room are covered with a dotted gradient glass film to ensure privacy and light transmission.
The green “waistline” on wall in the VIP room continues the hollow color scheme on the partition wall of the public dining area.
The specially customized large-size non-standard dining table, through different shapes, heights, and combinations, naturally divides the dining area into a leisure area, a long table area and a high table area, which can meet kinds of needs of parties, salons, afternoon teas, etc.
The signboard in the outdoor area was replaced by a floor-to-ceiling flower box, where the design team used artificial flowers for seasonal considerations.
On the purpose of budget and cost, the coasters, small ornaments, and decorative paintings used in the store are all hand-made by the design team during the construction period, which is different from the natural hand-made form, which can enrich the details of the venue and enhance the experience feelings.
Color is the expression of spatial emotions. Due to the characteristics of fit-friendly food catering brands, in this project, the design team used green, which is rarely used in the catering industry, as a matching color. In large areas of white, gray, and with the cooperation of many real and fake green plants, the entire venue space is separated from the original decorative atmosphere of the industrial park, making it fresher and more natural, which meets the needs of consumers for the concept of green and healthy catering.
