Entrusted by Beijing Tuopu Fenglian Information Engineering Co., Ltd., Bande Architecture designed the exhibition hall for the company at the Guiyang Digital Expo. The exhibition hall, which covers an area of 168 square meters, is located at Unit 05, Area B and Hall W2 in the Guiyang International Expo Center. The display functions include four major sections： digital government, smart devices, swordfish signage, and smart governance. The proprietor hopes to not only create an entrepreneur persona for the set of exhibition halls without denying the displayed content but also have an visual effect that underpins the development of the enterprise and its cultural implication.
一、一张折纸 A piece of origami
In 1987, China sent the world’s first e-mail： “Traverse the Great Wall and go to the world”, which harbinger China’s use of the Internet. Since then, the Internet storm has swept across China. In more than 30 years of expansion, the Internet has been changing people’s lives more than ever. Tuopu Fenglian, being one of the founding members that start the Internet storm in China, hopes to interpret the growth the company through an abstract expression. Therefore, the concept of “a piece of origami” was conceived. It folds four groups of area within one piece of white paper into well-proportioned spatial layout. The four folded areas are the four major display sections of the exhibition hall. They are organized in a staggered manner, symbolizing the rampant booming of the Internet. In fact, every Internet company starts with a blank sheet of paper but struggle to compose its content. There definitely will be ups and downs in the process, but those who stick it to the end will find their unique destiny. This originates the concept of “a piece of origami”. The designer combines the history of Tuopu Fenglian with the growth experiences of the Internet storm, and endows them with the most straightforward concept. For “the piece of origami”, it’s a continuous process, whenever manifested as “writing” or “folding”, that composes different chapters of the development of the enterprise.
The feelings expressed by this exhibition hall to the audience are not the traditional crowdedness and liveliness, but rather “quiescence”. The designer hopes to use the “quiescence” to counter the surrounding “motion”, to stand out from the competitors in such way, and to create a unique feature that matches the enterprise’s own persona. In addition to the display function of the four groups of folded areas in the exhibition hall, the designer also empowers them with another function： four groups of pavilions. These four sets of pavilions can be both exhibition and leisure space for the audience, which give a spot for everyone to stay. This space of quiescence attracts the audience with its unique layout, giving the viewers an experience from unfamiliar to understanding and then to enjoyment.
三、一组装配 A set of assembly
The method of constructing this exhibition hall is prefabricated assembly. The designer divides all the shapes into components by modularization, which are processed in the factory. The internal heavy and light electric system and surface decorations are finished during the construction of the components. The only labor needed on site is the assembly of the components, which greatly shorten the construction time. It only takes 48 hours for all the components to finish the assembly after entering the site. Indeed, it is a highly efficient construction method.
