Reception and lounge: a calm arrival
From the moment one steps inside, the reception area and public lounge area form a gentle contrast with the external cityscape. Membrane lights embedded in the ceiling simulate natural light, penetrating deep into the interior, immediately creating a sense of stillness. The gently curved wall curves and diffused light suspended above them, shaping a calm yet energetic atmosphere.
In this project, we have consistently treated materials, light, and form as a continuum, shaping the way the body moves and experiences in space. The final space is rooted in everyday life yet exudes a sense of elevation – a place where calm and discipline coexist, and every detail imbues the space with depth.
The entire design incorporates playful elements to enhance the spatial exploration experience. Color is employed as a form that transcends reality, a concept inspired by Joseph Albers’ exploration in “Interaction of Color”.
“Color deceives continually”

Natural light also serves as an important cue for organizing space. We have intentionally introduced natural light into the central area through gaps, creating a magical spatial experience through the reflection of light and shadows. The open layout is also designed to stimulate communication and collaboration, generating a series of formal and informal scenarios through the arrangement of furniture.
Core:A Tension That Grows Outward
To establish a strong first impression, we positioned the core anchor of the design as the large-scale structure – the central core tube. In terms of form shaping, we attempted to seek an absolutely symmetrical balance through geometric language under rational logic. This huge structure not only serves as the visual focus of the space, but also generates an “explosive growth tension” towards the outside.
The narrative of the space unfolds from the entrance, with the overall circulation centered around the central core. In response to the demands for periodic updates and high flexibility of the space, we adopted a “scattered” layout – we deliberately avoided fixed structures within the venue, maximizing the release of space and scattering it throughout the space like museum exhibits. This strategy not only grants great physical freedom but also makes the spatial interface more transparent and three-dimensional.
Stepping into the aisle, the lighting environment within the space is deliberately converged and controlled, thereby guiding the viewer’s emotions to gradually focus. The pink terrazzo paving, varying in shades, is laid out in small square shapes with gaps between them. This highly arrayed logic anchors a solid, warm tone for the entire exhibition hall. Within the space, four oval-shaped megastructures are treated, with light and shadow carving distinct shading relationships on their hard surfaces, creating a future field with a monumental and sculptural feel.
A restrained palette of warm and neutral hues permeates the entire space, lending it a sense of continuity and relaxation. The integrated reception desk anchors the open lobby, while niches integrated into the custom woodwork blur the boundaries between storage, retail, and display. The materials emphasize a balance between cool and warm tones. The terrazzo base provides a continuous backdrop, while wood is used for furniture and floor zoning, softening the spatial atmosphere and offering a natural tactile experience. The overall design is restrained and neutral, avoiding excessive decoration that might stimulate the senses and disrupt the experience.
Fluid Symbiotic Spatial Form
The pastel-toned environment in the design softens the spatial atmosphere. The combination of these colors produces subtle optical vibrations, making the space appear lighter and more interesting. The specially selected colors are intended to convey a sense of joy and happiness. By emphasizing the highlight tones while allowing the colors to blend naturally, the visual focus is ensured.
In addition to basic lighting, the entire lobby adopts a uniform backlight film ceiling. This continuous light film surface not only enhances the overall lighting level but also effectively reduces harsh shadows, adding a soft atmosphere to the open waiting area and creating an open and pleasant spatial experience.
The indoor space breaks away from the conventional static zoning model, adopting a fluid and symbiotic spatial logic as its organizing principle. Within the open-plan setting, the design follows the trajectory of light, organically connecting the functional zones of the space while maintaining visual and spatial continuity. The exhibition area, consultation waiting area, and reception desk are seamlessly integrated and reconfigured.

Space Must Be Felt And Touched
We drew inspiration from “Monument Valley” and employed optical illusions and geometric block interlacing to transform sharp straight lines into gentle curves. Amidst the white spaces and transparent lighting, and at deliberately set stopping points, visitors are able to experience different spatial scenes and emotional sensations as they move around. In this exhibition hall, where terrazzo is the core product, we aim to present a look that is tough on the outside but has an extremely gentle and relaxed feel on the inside.
The front space serves as an emotional gateway, emphasizing relaxation and social interaction while downplaying commercial elements. The space retains natural lighting and features a lofty physical design, enhancing the sense of interior space while mitigating the sense of oppression during large gatherings. It can flexibly accommodate diverse settings such as brand events, guest receptions, and industry exchanges. Additionally, scattered sofa seating caters to varying needs, from casual discussions to in-depth exchanges.
Break free from fixed thinking, trace back to the natural origins of materials, and provide visitors with a spiritual corner for contemplating aesthetics, freedom, and reverie beyond the complexity of daily life. This endows the brand space with humanistic value that transcends mere service.
Driven by a shared appreciation for tactile sensations, craftsmanship, and sensory experiences, we allow wood, velvet, metal, and touch to resonate and engage in a dialogue within the space. Through meticulously choreographed relationships between materials, light and shadow, and space, we enable customers to personally experience how these elements create a serene atmosphere, rediscovering the delicate and profound interaction between humans and space.
结语
THE END
A space, one that pertains to imagination, one that focuses on perception, and one that concerns gaze, together constitute the spiritual dimension beyond the functional aspects of public spaces. Together with those grand structures and gentle materials, they have redefined the contemporary medical aesthetic public space. It should not be a place for waiting, but rather a scenery capable of carrying emotions, evoking resonance, and conveying brand values.
MOOTHAN Design collaborates with ZHIYAN for the first time in a deep co-creation. This time, we deconstruct the medical aesthetic space using sculptural surface language. In Taiyuan, a city steeped in history, we have constructed an extraordinary medical aesthetic flagship store, narrating the story of passage, stagnation, and reversal.
