Thai Food Show is a cutting-edge catering brand focusing on Thai food. After the first store in Nanjing was well received, the brand expanded to the city center. The Nanjing No. 2 store chose to break through the space form, which is different from the previous American retro space, and uses the overall style of the yacht to create a sense of atmosphere of the new store.
开放景观 Open landscape
The site is located on Zhongshan Road, with the school area in the north and the city center in the south. The plane trees on both sides of the street are lush. The store space fully absorbs natural light, and the simple off-site area becomes a transitional leisure prelude. The overall design keeps the style distance from the surrounding.
In addition to the overall place construction, the design team left many intriguing design details. The details of the armrests are de-functionalized and integrated into the curved façade of the restaurant, which has become an important component of visual symbols. The custom deck also refers to the form related to the theme of the boat, giving new functional attributes.
造船记 Shipbuilding story
In the early stage of the design, facing the flat, long and deep layout, we took the “yacht” as inspiration to integrate the spatial boundaries. The dining area and the functional area are concisely divided, and the symmetrical form in the axis makes the space moving lines clear and ensures the clarity of the movement to the greatest extent.

场所氛围 Place atmosphere
Moving to the bar area, in addition to decorative considerations, the metal information panel also implies the distance between Nanjing and other cities, echoing the meaning of “voyage” in the area.Even though many space elements do not contain the concept of yachts in form, they deepen the theme of the space in the recombination, so that the space is not only a pure expression of the boat, but also a strong and distinct sense of place.
Taking into account the integrity of the space vision, the air outlet and return air outlet and the light strip pipeline in the facade shape are all hidden, and the different shades of white also make the space more inclusive. The exquisite and bright overall environment is like a traveling ship. Through the glass door, the lively atmosphere wrapped in the interior becomes a warm and bright color outlined by the streetscape.
Looking back at the design process of Nanjing No. 2 Store, it took only one month from the delivery of the drawings, to the construction entry and the final landing. The design team and the construction partners also worked together to overcome all difficulties, like a voyage cruise that rides the wind and waves.
From the American retro theater in the Guochuangyuan store to the “ship building” in the Xinjiekou store, the design team’s ever-changing place creation is also catering to the growth of the Thai Food Show, adapting to a multi-brand system in the space design.
